Response of a student; Pleading for change

Response of a student; Pleading for change.

What will your reaction be when your own daughter becomes the prey of molestation? How would you feel when one of your own family members becomes the object of sex trafficking? How aggressively would you stand to fight when you hear from someone that your daughter was beaten, raped and murdered? Won’t your heart seize to beat? Won’t your brain just freeze?

This was the same situation with me when I was going through news headlines recently – “ An eight year old girl, Asifa  had been gang raped, strangled with her own scarf and bashed in the skull with a rock.” And not more than few days had passed to this incident , that another headline reported-“ Another 8-year old girl raped and killed”. My follicles stood tall , there ran deep terror inside and the tears dropped without even a pause. Are we progressing toward a period where humanity will seize to exist and a new world of crime and punishment be the foundation of constitution?

The rapists, as we all say, are not humans but the born devil
For me, rapists are humans, developed into devils. What this mean is that- we are all born as a pure child, with no insane thoughts but the way we are brought up is the root cause of this issue. Rape is not born out of mind, it’s the product that brew out of all our experiences. It’s the way that reflect how we have lived our childhood and all that we have faced.

Ironically
Social studies in our schools lays the fact that we are reaching the era of equality and no religious discrimination but it is far from the real scenario. The differences amongst us on all levels , either social or economical are the prerequisites for the crimes. All the more, not only the differences but the benefits that come with it like the reservation for Dalits and all the low-caste people serve as the fuel to the fire for the people who consider themselves as upper castes. The increasing feminist movement is also the outraging factor for certain people who choose the violent methods to soothe their burning heart.

Call for action

As I write all of this, I do realize the need to take steps on the personal level. As an educated member of this society  I don’t feel the need to stop the ever-growing feminist movement , but be a person from the male society to stand for the right of females. As a human, it is my responsibility to reach wider audience and to most of them who don’t even have access to all the guidelines and measures to be taken in case of grievous crime , to give them my voice and ask them to stand for their rights. There is one thing that is very obvious- crores of people who are victim of any type of crime are unable to put their voice just because they are from a poor nation or they don’t have support. And most often families choose to keep things at the back to preserve their respect in society. But is that the respect that we aspire for? We keep one case hidden and thousands voices get crumbled under it.

Why do we just blame the government and not become even a member of it? Just because families keep us away from joining political arena. Why can’t we educate ourselves and become the social activist? Just because our family’s pride will be in turmoil. Why do we even tell our sisters and daughters to cover their faces while going outside and not give them the basic defense art?  It is just because we feel boys don’t understand emotions and this is where we go wrong.. We treat both of them as males and females rather than treating them as humans.

Be Active, Be Healthy, Be Happy

Be Active, Be Healthy, Be Happy Health and Fitness have become key words in today’s stress filled life. But do we have the time to indulge in fitness activities when we are overloaded with college assignments, exams and activities ? A healthy body is a barometer of a person’s mental state. Honestly, I am not a person who would take the effort of exercising on a regular basis. But I do believe in the old adage,’if health is lost, wealth is lost’. I am aware that I have to stay fit, both in body and mind. Personal instances have proved that exercising creates a very positive energy around one; it increases the alertness of the mind. One suddenly feels recharged and filled with positive motivation to achieve the target plan of the day. Just last month a friend of mine in the hostel started exercising in the morning. The result has been encouraging as doesn’t feel fatigued and feels fresh in class too. She is no more haunted by sleep monsters during lectures. She choose to exercis...

A Memorable Day at Orphanage

We believe in giving back to the society and serving everyone in need. Here's how we have been trying our best to contribute. Myroomie visited to an orphanage and here we are sharing our experiences As we stepped into the living , we saw few people, sitting at a table. Their eyes looked tired and empty, void of all emotions. They greeted us with a faint smile. After the introduction, we started off with some fun activities. Later, we presented the old ladies with waterbottles and snacks that we had brought for them. We also handed the books and crayons we had taken for the children. Next we started with a small entertainment programme that we had put up for them. We also played a fun little musical chair activity with them. The residents bubbled with energy, as they shook a leg with us and hummed to the tune of songs rhymes and more! It was a different kind of satisfaction altogether, to hear their joyous laughs, their smiles and hushed giggles. So contrary ...
